My camping trip in Bear Basin

In response to Bayard’s recent email regarding the reintroduction of wolves, I can vouch for the fact that one witnesses less wildlife while out on wilderness trips.

I have just come back from a 4 day camping and riding trip in the Shoshone Forest and Washakie Wilderness, Wyoming. It was an amazing trip with great horses, scenery and people but in all four days we only saw 1 moose and 4 elk (which were way off in the distance). Believe me, we were not riding near any roads, other people or established camp sites. Surely we should have seen more wildlife? We did see some bear tracks and areas where bears had rummaged about as well as some wolf tracks. I am sure that the lack of wildlife was a result of the wolves and not the bears.

Photos to follow of this amazing part of Wyoming.
