Amy Tryon receives FEI decision
I had been curious to know the outcome of the “Amy Tryon” hearing. Amy, A US Event Rider was alleged to been abusive to her horse during her recent run at the 2007 Rolex. The horse appeared lame just prior to the last jump yet Amy continued to finish the course, dismounted and then looked into the horses well being. The horse had irreparable ligament damage and later had to be put down.
You Tube had the incident online but was quickly taken it off as it was evidence in a hearing, therefore I have not seen the actual clip. From friends who have however, the recent court decision by the FEI to fine Amy just over £ 1,000 and ban her for two months may not be punishment enough.
There does not seem to be any updates on the USEA homepage but perhaps they are still deciding how to deal with the backlash. Maybe they are just hoping it will go away. Is a more severe punishment required? Should they have made an example of Amy? The eventing world receives a lot of bad publicity as it is so perhaps publicizing this hearing result would only fuel the fire.

Hello Sarah,
it is quite possible that you already have found your answer to this question, but I found this particular site helpful, as it also includes a link to the full text of the decision at the bottom. I think they made an incredibly fair and just decision without dooming anyone’s career.
happy trails!

Thanks for the link Lorraine. Very interesting read. The more I think about it, the more I believe it was the correct decision. Not sure I could have made sound judgement given the situation.
