Arena or trail?

Equitours instructional riding program in Spain- Epona- is another combination ride with both trails and instruction. Riding strong responsive Andalusians while receiving lessons from British Horse Society and Spanish Federation instructors, has to be good for one’s riding- yes? Some people may disagree. This is, in fact a frequent topic of debate between my husband and I!Â
I know riders who feel this style of rigorous riding and training restricts the horse’s movement and enjoyment. The same people may just enjoy hacking or trail riding on a steady horse. I personally enjoy both disciplines- trail riding and ring/arena work. I feel it helps both rider and horse stay fresh and interested in the job while providing muscle tone and correct use of the horse and rider’s body. My husband would argue that we ‘can’t teach a horse how to walk’. What do you think?
