Paula joins Roz
Paula Godwin from Belgium, travelled with Roz on the Great North Woods Trail scouting trip.
“When I traveled to New Hampshire last October to ride Tennessee Walkers, I must admit to having no idea of what to expect. I did have an idea of the TWs being bigger than those we rode, but could not have guessed at their wonderful characters and generous natures.
Being one of those old school English riders that trotted around the roads as a youngster to get the eventers and hunters fit, I am a veteran rising trotter and can go for miles with a fit horse, posting the trot. Now in New Hamps, I was to discover the experience of gliding along at speed and not having to do anything, in fact it was just like sitting in an armchair and as the views were superb on the hacks, I did not even need the TV!Â
As to a comparison, I find that both gaited and non gaited horses have their advantages, but I would have to recommend the gaiters to anyone who wanted a pleasurable ride with less effort and certainly to those with any kind of back problem! And, in a few years time, I may well be looking for a Tennessee Walker for my retirement rides!!”Â
Do any of our readers have an opinion on the gaited vs non-gaited horse debate?
