The verdict from Roz…..

Roz continues her experience with the gaited horses in New Hampshire.

“Years ago I did the Sugarbush Tolt Trek in Vermont and also rode with our outfitters in Iceland. Both use gaited Icelandic horses and I loved those rides, but at that time I wasn’t into long stretches of posting trots. That came more recently. To be honest, it had been several years so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

What I found was not only beautiful scenery but beautiful, well trained horses with fluid gaits and sweet personalities. The smooth glide of the Tennessee Walkers’ fast walk carried us up and down the mountain slopes with very little effort on our part. The rocking motion of their canters was easy to adjust to and allowed us to move out. Not even the moose that came running out of the forest directly into our path spooked our horses into taking more than a step or two. Who could ask for more?

Am I ready to trade in my Quarter horse for a gaited horse? No way – but I’d be willing to add a gaited horse to my collection. And, I’ll be one of the first to sign up for other riding holidays using gaited horses.”
