The Equitours Patagonia Ride in Argentina, was my first stop. Flying from Buenos Aires to San Martin de Los Andes was a sight to be seen. Traveling parallel to the Andes, the short trip dropped me off at a very “Wyoming looking” location. Very abrupt, strong featured mountains surrounded me. More like a painted backdrop, than reality. I’m often caught saying this same comment to guests at the Bitterroot Ranch in Wyoming with respect to the Wind River Mountain Range.
The Equitours Patagonia Ride is set on a 15,000 acre working cattle estancia, 20 minutes from the quaint town of Junin. I was met by welcoming staff, shiny strong horses, colorful gardens, clean modern accommodations and the token slew of dogs that any ranch or estancia seems to adopt.
My fellow guests and I settled in with a ride (followed by quite a hike) to see the condors. Wine and nibbles up high on an edge cliff eyeing the three condors on show was a great way to spend our first dusk. A hearty meal, plenty of wine and a good nights rest was a great prelude to the rest of the week.
