A Peruvian Paso Stallion
There are six ladies who work here in the Equitours office. Throughout the year, we are lucky enough to visit some of our outfitters which are scattered over six continents. This gives us a more personal feel for the ride which in turn helps us find the most appropriate ride for you, matching your expectations and dreams. As we return from our recent riding vacations I will post an entry relating to our individual thoughts, ideas and experiences from the trip. Countries like Portugal, Argentina, Peru and Uruguay will be visited as well as some United States locations. The owners of Equitours- Mel, Bayard and Richard Fox, will be visiting Kenya and India in the New Year and will have some wonderful stories to tell on their return. I will be sure to pass these on.

You have heard Ellen’s account of Mongolia in a previous entry. Now I wish to take you on a ride with Biggi into the Sacred Valley of the Inca’s, on Misti- a Peruvian Paso Stallion.
“At the end of August I found myself traveling the Altiplano high in the Peruvian Andes in the Cusco area. I had been selling the Sacred Valley of the Incas Ride since Eduad, our outfitter in Peru, started with Equitours 6 years ago. Not only was the ride something to anticipate but now I could finally experience first hand the beauty and awe of the ruins of the Machu Picchu.
Over the years I had only the best reviews from our clients and was very excited to encounter this wonderful adventure for myself. The amazing Peruvian Paso horses on this ride had been mentioned by my clients over and over again and a horse named Misti had come up like a red thread throughout. I felt very privileged that Eduad granted my wish and let me ride this noble steed. This is Misti and I leading the ride in the photo on the left. Misti is an incredible smooth gaited Peruvian Paso Stallion with impeccable manners. Like all Paso’s, he is strong, sure-footed and had a gentle disposition. The comfortable Paso Llano (four beat) gait of Misti took me over rolling hills, rocky cliffs, streams and natural depressions with ease. Upon his back I felt like royalty. Thank -you Misti for the ride of a lifetime.”
Peruvian Paso’s (check out the Peruvian Paso breed site for more breed information) have been bred for centuries for their Paso Llano gait which is extremely comfortable and makes them ideal for covering the long distances on this ride without discomfort for the rider. The Paso Llano consists of a permanent four beat, harmonic and rhythmic tapping in which the horse makes a gentle alternating movement. What better way to discover Peru but on its national treasure- the Peruvian Paso.
