Yes Natalie, Mongolia is a fascinating country and well worth a visit. You are correct in hesitating with your husband. Not that these tough hardy horses couldn't carry your partner, but from a comfort level he would feel large and cumbersome. This would wear thin after a couple days.

Perhaps a combined riding and hiking trip is more up your alley... Equitours Mongolian Classic is a good itinerary for non-riders, and for the 4 days you are in the mountains north of Ulaanbaatar you could ride while your husband hikes. Alternatively, Equitours has horse riding vacations all over the world, many catering for guests over 200lbs. You can find them at http://www.ridingtours.com/horseback_riding_destinations/ride_over.cfm I'm sure you will find something adventurous and suitable.

My husband and I have been wanting to go to Mongolia for a couple of years, but he is 6'4" and weighs 240 lbs. We hesitate because of the size of the horses, and we are not very interested in just driving around Mongolia in a truck or van. There has been much written about the tough Mongolian horses, but do you think they're tough enough for a man the size of my husband?
