Back from Africa

Our son, Richard, who is now 24 has just returned to the ranch from a few months of guiding our riding tours in Kenya. He has made the trip many times in the past and is well qualified to guide. In a postcard to a friend he said, “Having a lovely time in Kenya. The safaris I went on were fantastic. All were in the Mara, a national park, but each trip was special in its own way. Game was everywhere. We were charged by elephants, raced with zebra and giraffe, and were roared at by two male lions – all this on horseback.”

We began doing this ride in Kenya 25 years ago and indeed it has proved the adventure of a lifetime for hundreds of our clients. For sheer exhilarating excitement and a chance to observe wild game at its absolute best this ride takes first prize. Sitting in a landrover and passively watching game is only a step up from sitting behind the television set and watching it in a movie. Interacting with the animals on the back of a good polo pony is really being there. This is the country where that great film OUT OF AFRICA with Redford and Streep was filmed. It doesn’t detract from anything to have our really luxurious private camps with top service from a solicitous black staff. The tents are roomy with sheets and blankets on the beds.

It makes all the difference to have a son who loves the business and our ranch and is extremely capable of taking over from us.

Safari from a land rover is not a mere step up from sitting in front of a tv. You are as narrow minded (perhaps more) as you complain others to be.

I have worked with the Fox’s and find the above comment somewhat suspect. Not to mention self-incriminating… the psychological term “projection” comes to mind.
